Vīrabhadra (Sanskrit: वीरभद्र, lit. distinguished hero), also known as Veerabadhra,
Veerabathira, Veerabathiran is an extraordinarily aggressive and fearsome form of the Hindu
god Shiva. He was created by the wrath of Shiva and destroyed the Yagna (fire sacrifice) of
Daksha after Daksha's daughter and Shiva's consort Sati self-immolated in the sacrificial
fire. He is described as a warrior who eventually blinded Bhaga, subdued Indra, and broke
many other countless gods, Pushan's teeth. Other gods fled the battlefield, unable to
sustain his power. It is named after Veerbhadra and an avatar created through the wrath of
Shiva after the yajña of Daksha at Kankhal. An ancient Shiva temple known as Virbhadra
Temple, dedicated to him, is situated within the town. Virbhadra is famous for being the
first government pharmaceutical plant (producing Antibiotics), Indian Drugs and
Pharmaceutical Limited (IDPL). Virbhadra is located at 30.07°N 78.28°E. It has an average
elevation of 330 meters (1,083 feet).

52% of the population and females 48%. Virbhadra has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher
than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 75%. In

The climate of Veerbhadra is humid subtropical. It varies significantly from tropical to severe cold depending upon the altitude of the area. The city is in Doon Valley, and temperature variations due to differences in elevation are considerable. In the hilly regions, the summer is pleasant. But in the Doon, the heat is often intense, and summer temperatures can reach up to 44 °C (111 °F) for a few days, and hot winds (called Loo) blow over North India.
