Thottiyam is a panchayat town in Tiruchirappalli district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Thamilselvi Thirugnanam is the current President of Thottiyam. It is situated 60 km north-west of Tiruchirapalli and Trichy-Namakkal State Highway (SH-25) and further, it connects Namakkal-Salem-Bangalore National Highway ( NH 7). It is located near the Kaveri River, about 12 km northwest of Musiri. The name of the town is said to derive from the Thottiya Naicker caste peoples living there. But people of the SozhiyaVellalar Mutharaiyar community were the majority and have ruling efficiency in Thottiyam Koranganatha Temple located in the outskirts of the town is a historic temple built during the Chola period in the 10th century.

Only the local village buses which stop for more than half an hour will go into the bus stand. So, everybody has to wait outside the bus stand to get the main route buses at Thottiyam. There are 2 Bus Stops at Thottiyam. one at the Bus Stand and another at the Police Station. Normally buses are overcrowded and getting a seat will be difficult. Now the 3rd Bus Stop is developing at Union Office, which is just 1 km from Thottiyam. Therefore the visitors can reach Thottiyam with the help of a state bus.
