Rohtak is a city in the Indian state of Haryana and the administrative center of the Rohtak district. On NH 9 it is 70 kilometers north of New Delhi and 250 kilometers south of Chandigarh, the state capital. Rohtak is part of the National Capital Region, which aids the city in securing low-interest loans from the NCR Planning Board for infrastructure growth. According to the 2011 census, Rohtak is Haryana's sixth most populous district.
In Rohtak, the average annual rainfall is 597 mm. Spring, summer, fall/autumn, and winter are the four major seasons in the region. Extreme temperature fluctuations characterize the climate in Rohtak. In the winter months of November to February, temperatures seldom drop below freezing.
Roads
Three national highways, NH 9, NH 709, and NH 352, and two state highways, link Rohtak to seven towns. National Highway 9 from New Delhi to Rohtak has been upgraded to six lanes with a 30-kilometer Rohtak City
Bypass, allowing vehicles traveling between New Delhi and Hisar to bypass Rohtak.
National highway
Three national highways cross the city: NH-9 (from Malaut, Punjab, to Askot, Uttarakhand), NH-709 (from Rajgarh, Haryana, to Panipat, Haryana), and NH-352 (from Narwana to Rewari). NH-9 connects
Rohtak and Delhi, and the road is currently being expanded to six lanes by the NHAI, with plans to develop the entire corridor as an industrial area. There are four lanes on NH-352 from Rewari to Rohtak and four lanes on NH-709
from Rohtak to Panipat.
Railway
The city of Rohtak serves as a railway junction, with links to Delhi, Panipat, Rewari, Bhiwani, and Jind. The Delhi line connects Rohtak to Bahadurgarh, the Panipat line to Gohana, and the Rewari line to
Jhajjar. The Delhi-Fazilka line connects Delhi and Jind. All other tracks, such as the Rohtak Rewari Line and the Rohtak Hisar Line, are single track and electrified (via Bhiwani). Between New Delhi and Rohtak, the railway
track has been electrified. Since March 2013, EMU services have been operating between the two cities.
Flight
The city does not have a commercial airport. The state government has expressed interest in constructing a Greenfield Cargo Airport in Meham to serve the area, and the AAI has given its consent in principle.
Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is approximately 75 kilometers away.
