Fazilka is a city and district in the Indian state of Punjab. The town’s history dates back to about 165 years ago. Fazilka is located in southwestern Punjab (INDIA), about 325 km west of Punjab State Capital Chandigarh, 85 km south-west of Ferozepur, and 200 km south of Amritsar. Fazilka is on the India -Pakistan border and is 11 km off the international border with Pakistan. Fazilka is known for a style of Jhumar dance which is formed by mixing two regional styles in a single routine. Still, after that, the trade has been hit very hard, with a significant portion of the supply going to Pakistan and the Bikaner Town gradually attracting the raw wool produced in Rajasthan. The first single-cylinder steamship in the world, Fazilka, was named after this town. Fazilka is also home to Asia’s second-biggest TV tower, which stands 305 m above the ground.
The climate here is dry and arid. Summers are prolonged and hot with an average maximum temperature of 42°C. During winter, the average minimum temperature is 7° C. The average precipitation during the year is 22.6 mm, and the monsoons are less. The climate of the Fazilka District is, on the whole, dry and is characterized by a very hot summer, a short rainy season, and a bracing winter. The year may be divided into four seasons. The cold season is from November to March. This is followed by the summer season, which lasts until about the end of June. The period from July to mid-September constitutes the south-westerly monsoon season. The latter half of September and October may be termed the post-monsoon or the transition period.
