Diamond Research and Mercantile City

Diamond Research and Mercantile City, also known as DREAM City, is an upcoming business district in Surat, India., along the lines of the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City and Dholera Smart city near Ahmedabad. Expected to open in 2017-2018, it will be Gujarat's third smart city

It will be built on 2,000 acres (810 ha) of land near Khajod and is situated at an altitude of 22 m above sea level.

The district is going to have office space, residential areas, and facilities for these residential areas. It will be established and run by a special purpose vehicle formed by the Government of Gujarat. The special purpose vehicle, named DREAM City Company Limited, was formed by the passage of a resolution in the assembly of the state government. The Government of Gujarat plans to set up a Textile University in DREAM City, Surat.

Climate

Surat has a tropical savanna climate, moderated strongly by the Sea to the Gulf of Cambay. The summer begins in early March and lasts until June. April and May are the hottest months, with the average maximum temperature being 37 °C. Monsoon begins in late June and the city receives about 1,200 millimeters (47 in) of rain by the end of September, with the average maximum being 32 °C during those months. October and November see the retreat of the monsoon and a return of high temperatures until late November. Winter starts in December and ends in late February, with average mean temperatures of around 23 °C, and negligible rain.

By Air

The Surat Railway station is in the eastern-central part of the city and is very conveniently located near major hotels and businesses. There is also a connection to the Central Railways through the Udhna Junction and the Tapti line.

One can get into Surat from National Highway 8 from 3 major connector highways. The National Highway 8 corridor is one of the most industrially developed areas in the country and Surat is one of the most industrially active cities that connect to it. National hHighway6 starts from Hazira and connects the city to Dhule, Nagpur, Raipur, Sambalpur, Kharagpur, and Kolkata.
