Dhuliyan is a municipality town in the Jangipur subdivision of Murshidabad district in the
state of West Bengal, India. It is located between the Ganges and the Hooghly canal. The
city is situated at an altitude of 4 m above sea level. It is spread across an area of 6.25
square kilometres. The Dhulian Municipality has a population of 95,706 of which 47,635 are
males while 48,071 are females as per a report released by Census India 2011. The literacy
rate is 63.03%.
Dhuliyan has been mentioned as an inland water transport (IWT) trading point between
Murshidabad and the city of Rajshahi in Bangladesh. Low-cost barges could ply the Ganges
river, called the Padma in downstream Bangladesh, exchanging goods and reducing smuggling.
Murshidabad has a tropical wet-and-dry climate. The annual mean temperature is approximately 27 °C; monthly mean temperatures range from 17 °C to 35 °C. Summers are hot and humid with temperatures in the low 30s and during dry spells, the maximum temperatures often exceed 40 °C during May and June. Winter tends to last for only about two and a half months, with seasonal lows dipping to 9 °C – 11 °C between December and January.

Murshidabad/Berhampore is well connected by road. State-run buses from Kolkata, Burdwan, Rampurhat, Suri, Bolpur, Malda, Krishnagar and Durgapur do ply regularly to Murshidabad. One can also hire a taxi to reach Murshidabad from the above-mentioned places. There are two routes from Kolkata to Berhampore those are NH34 and Badshahi Road via Burdwan. NBSTC, SBSTC and WBTC buses are available from Esplanade Kolkata and Tenzing Norgey Junction Siliguri. Many AC Volvo and Red buses are also available from Kolkata or Siliguri.
